Seit Beginn der Luftangriffe der USA und Israels auf den Iran sind nach Angaben des UN-Flüchtlingshilfswerks UNHCR mehr als drei Millionen Menschen innerhalb des Landes vertrieben worden. Betroffen seien zwischen 600.000 und einer Million Haushalte, teilte die Behörde am Donnerstag in Genf mit. Je nach Haushaltsgröße entspreche das bis zu 3,2 Millionen Menschen, deren bisheriger Wohnort infolge der Kampfhandlungen nicht mehr sicher oder bewohnbar ist.

Die UNHCR-Notfallabteilung rechnet damit, dass die Zahl der Binnenvertriebenen weiter steigen wird. Angesichts der anhaltenden Angriffe sprach der Leiter der Abteilung, Ayaki Ito, von einer „besorgniserregenden Eskalation“ der humanitären Lage im Iran. Die Organisation betont die Notwendigkeit, Zivilisten zu schützen, humanitären Zugang aufrechtzuerhalten und Grenzen für Menschen, die Sicherheit suchen, gemäß internationalen Verpflichtungen offen zu halten.

Der Iran beherbergt seit Jahren große Flüchtlingspopulationen aus Nachbarstaaten, insbesondere aus Afghanistan. Nach UNHCR-Angaben werden diese Menschen nun zusätzlich von den aktuellen Kampfhandlungen erfasst. Viele dieser Familien verfügten über nur sehr begrenzte Unterstützungsnetzwerke und befänden sich daher in einer besonders verwundbaren Lage, warnte Ito.

Die USA und Israel hatten den Angaben zufolge am 28. Februar mit Luftangriffen den Iran-Krieg begonnen. Bereits am ersten Tag der Angriffe wurden der Oberste Führer des Landes, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei beziehungsweise Ayatollah Ali Chamenei, sowie weitere Mitglieder der iranischen Führung getötet. Der Iran reagiert seither mit Raketen- und Drohnenangriffen auf Ziele in Israel, mehreren Golfstaaten und auf US-Einrichtungen in der Golfregion. Humanitäre Organisationen richten ihren Fokus nun verstärkt auf die Versorgung der Vertriebenen und drängen auf Maßnahmen zur Begrenzung der zivilen Folgen der anhaltenden Kampfhandlungen.
